EXPERIENCE

RESULTS

As owners of Hi-Groove Motorsports, Tom Granelli and
Steve Hansen bring a wealth of experience to the
table in building successful racing programs.
Tom,
as an owner of BG Motorsports, was a part of
building successful programs in 2 national racing
series. The NASCAR Goody’s Dash Series, where the
team finished in the top 10 in points 4 years in a
row. That included finishing 2nd in points two years
in a row, and sitting on the Pole at Daytona in
2000, and running away with the race until an oil
leak put them on the sidelines. BG Motorsports
partnered with long-time sponsor, Washington Apples
for 2 of those years. In addition Tom built
successful relationships with other sponsors such
as, The Make A Wish Foundation of Connecticut, and
Racing USA.
In 2000 Tom’s efforts for BG Motorsports brought
about an even more challenging project when the team
decided to compete at the same time in 2 national
series. The Goody’s Dash Series, and the well known
American Speed Association (ASA). Tom was able to
sign ConAgra Foods to support the effort under their
Van Camps Beans brand. The team competed in 10 ASA
races that year, in addition to the complete 18 race
Dash schedule. The highlight of the season was when
due to a weather cancellation BG Motorsports was
forced to do what only the drivers in the CUP and
IRL Series ever did, which was to race 2 times on
the same day in different parts of the country.
Long-time race reporter Mike Owens wrote in his
FasTrack column that week, calling it The Daily
Double. With Tom’s commitment to detail and
organization the team pulled it off with a great
deal less resources than the CUP/IRL drivers. BG
Motorsports made their inaugural race in the ASA
Series at Hawkeye Downs, in Cedar Rapids , Iowa in
the afternoon running every lap and finishing a
respectable 20th. Tom and their driver, Ricky
Bryant, and key staff then flew to North Carolina
where they finished 2nd in that evenings Dash Series
race at Orange County Speedway. That season with
Tom’s efforts as owner the team finished 2nd in
points, won 3 races, sat on the pole at Daytona, and
qualified for all 10 ASA races even when there were
regularly car counts of 50 to 60. Tom’s steady
organization and guidance, as an owner of BG
Motorsports were a big part of that team’s success
over the years.
Tom also has additional experience in professional
sports marketing from a career in professional
hockey doing marketing for the minor league
affiliates of the Philadelphia Flyers, and NY
Islanders.
Steve
Hansen joined Tom in 2000 first as a dedicated
crewman who regularly drove half way across the
country from his home in Nebraska to crew cars in
the ASA, and Dash Series for BG Motorsports. Later
on Steve became an integral part of the BG
Motorsports marketing program with their show car
events all over the country. Steve is also a very
accomplished racer in his own right competing at
many dirt tracks in the mid-west. Steve’s driving
career began in 1985 when he purchased a car from a
friend. Even though that 1st season was short lived,
due to an accident, Steve went on to race in the
Hobby Stock Division the next season. From there he
moved onto the Dirt Late Model division where he
still races today. During his career Steve has
chalked up 46 wins to date, and barely missed 2
points titles by a combined 5 points. In 2009 even
as he takes on a ownership role in Hi-Groove
Motorsports he still has ambitious plans to race 18
– 20 times when he kicks off the Isaac Hall Memorial
Tour to benefit research in the cure of childhood
cancer. The story of Isaac Hall and the inspiration
it brought Steve is on his website –
www.stevehansen43.com.
Together as owners of Hi-Groove Motorsports, Tom and
Steve will bring a shared style of management to
this enterprise. Part allowing each to share in the
critical decisions of running a day to day race
team, but each also specializing in the areas of
technical and marketing expertise needed for
Hi-Groove Motorsports to be successful in the ARCA
Racing Series. Both Tom & Steve look forward to
competing full-time in the ARCA Series in 2010 with
the same degree of success each has found in their
individual careers, and as team mates, and partners.
